The E-Architecture Working Group is an advisory committee of the campuswide IT Architecture Committee (ITAC). The charter of this group is to provide information and advice to the ITAC, and through the ITAC, to e-Berkeley stakeholders on issues of system architecture for e-Berkeley applications. The principal stakeholders are the campus Chief Information Officer (CIO), who has overall responsibility for the campus technology architecture; the governing committees for the e-Berkeley Initiative; and campus departments that participate (or might participate) in e-Berkeley projects.
The principal goals are to assist the ITAC in developing a vision for campus e-architecture that is consistent with the e-Berkeley vision, and to create a representative expert forum for study and discussion of e-architecture topics.
In carrying out this charter, the Working Group is expected to do the following:
- To study current architectural issues and developments relevant to campus web-based applications and make recommendations to the ITAC.
- To document the campus e-architecture principles and standards (i.e., the preferred architecture) for endorsement and publication by the ITAC.
- To examine proposed e-Berkeley systems, as requested by an e-Berkeley governing committee or the CIO, to evaluate the alignment of those systems with the preferred architecture.
- To alert the ITAC to questions of systems policy or technical direction that may require broad campus discussion.
- To provide requested information to the ITAC.
- To inform the ITAC Chair of procedural or resource issues that cannot be resolved by members of the Working Group.
Membership in the Working Group will follow principles adopted by the ITAC. One principle is that the following stakeholders should all be represented: academic units, administrative units, Information Systems and Technology, and the campus CIO. Another principle is that membership should be open to any member of the faculty or staff who is interested and willing to contribute.
The chair of the Working Group may be recommended by the membership but shall be approved by the ITAC.
